I have arrived safely with supper & breakfast. Terrific
thunderstorm most of the way. Thunder lightning, & heavy rain.
Quite a number of soldiers still on guard all up the line. 6
soldiers & 2 police in one signal box.
Best wishes to both Albert
events of the previous week & what has become known as "Bloody
Sunday" in Great Britain. On the 13th August 1911, violence erupted in
Liverpool when a rally of 85,000 striking, transport workers (dockers,
railway workers and sailors) was broken up by police & soldiers. 350
people were seriously injured. Two days later, troops opened fire on a
group of 300 people, killing two young men. An inquest into the deaths at
the time, brought in a verdict of "justifiable homicide"! (Wikipedia)
